CISS 225 - PHP ProgrammingThis page contains important announcements, such as quiz dates, schedule changes, and other events. Please consult it regularly. Don't forget to refresh the page periodically. Also, note the background color for your course. Make sure you are in the right one. General AnnouncementsWelcome to the summer semester. Just figured out that my pages actually overwhelm the MSIE's display engine. Thus they don't always display right, even though the code is 100% standards compliant. Don't know if I should be proud or what. (*Ahem*) BorrowingIf you have borrowed any material, please make sure you cite your sources. It can be in the comments, it does not need to actually display on the page. Failure to do is is plagarism, plagarism is ground for failure. It is sort of a circle you see. Course Specific AnnouncementsUseful InfoAlways save a copy of your PHP files with a ".txt" suffix (instead of the ".php" suffix) in the same directory as the actual assignment. That way if I need to check the source code I can. Welcome to the Browser Wars (or) Tech NotesExamplesSample code from the book can be found under the examples link on the main menu to the left. PrintingIt seems that all the browsers have actually taken a step backward in supporting media specific style rules. So I have reworked the printing method by adding a printer friendly button that reloads the page with the printing style sheet and with all the navigation elements stripped from the page. Not as pretty as it could be, but all the browsers are choking on the page break commands, so I had to take them, and a few other advanced CSS rules, out. IE BugsIf you are using MS IE, you will find that some graphics which are using alpha transparency will not render correctly. Sorry for the inconvenience. Try switching to Mac. IE provides support for them there, which begs the question as to why Microsoft would make the product for the competition better than the one for its own OS. Just kidding, you don't need to buy a new box, you can also just use the most recent version Netscape or [Opera]. Having multiple browser to test your pages in is something you should do anyway. Where is it?If something is supposed to exist on my site but doesn't, it probably means I haven't gotten there yet. Weekly updates are normally posted late morning on the first day of classes each week (normally Monday). And I usually get a fair amount done each weekend to upload. So if it is supposed to be there for the current week, but it is before noon on Monday, check back in a few hours. After that, feel free to pester me to your heart's content. TelnetTelnet is no longer on the desktop. It now exists under start start menu as a new product Secure Shell. You can drag a shortcut to your desktop with the right mouse button (and select "copy" on release). It has a built in FTP client so you don't ned separate software packages for the two. They also have it set up so you can [download] it for home use. A note on appropriate contentAppropriate content includes your wallpaper and web browsing. There will be no wallpaper or visiting of sites on computers in my classrooms that objectify, denigrate, or insult [insert minority group/gender of choice here]. If it is something that others find offensive, you will be asked to remove it. I, at my discretion, will remove students who fail to comply from class for that class session. As a faculty member here, I am legally liable for my own inaction, so assume that I will take action and plan accordingly. Quicky Contact Info
