Internet Technologies

These tutorials are about the history of the Internet and an overview of the technologies of the Internet.

This tutorial has five (5) sub-sections.

Technologies

Technologies are the things behind the scenes that make the Internet work. They may be physical things, such as gateways and routers, or they may be protocols such as HTTP. The technology that drives the Internet can even be said to include the bureaucratic structure of the governing bodies that oversees the Internet and plots its future.

In these tutorials we will start with the hardware of the Internet and then move toward abstraction, ending with a look at the governing bodies that regulate the Internet.

It should be noted that all Internet services are, in fact, Internet technologies. For the purposes of this course, I have chosen these terms to identify two aspects of the Internet. Technologies refer to what goes on behind the scenes. Services refer to tools or resources that users directly interact with.
